Here at MMTEI, we embrace exceptional education. We are proud to say MMTEI adheres to Montessori Accrediation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) accreditation standards and American Montessori Society (AMS) affiliate standards. MACTE sets a threshold for standards; AMS ensures they are exceptional.
Online
MMTEI requires three online courses:
- Montessori Philosophy and Foundations of Early Childhood Development Part 1 Next course coming Fall of 2024
- Montessori Philosophy and Foundations of Early Childhood Development Part 2 Starts January 7, 2024
- Montessori Classroom Leadership
On-site
Lectures, presentations of Montessori materials and curriculum and supervised practice occur in a face-to-face three-week summer session, as well as a weekend workshop during the academic year. Presentations include:

Practicum
Working alongside a certified and experienced teacher for one academic year allows you to be fully integrated into a Montessori classroom environment. Although not recommended, self-directed internships can be an option. Your practicum may be a paid or volunteer position at any Montessori facility approved by MMTEI. Requirements include:
• 540 hours (minimum) in an approved Montessori classroom
• Six observations in other Montessori classrooms
• Year-long curriculum development project
• Design of classroom materials and lesson plans
• Compilation of teaching manuals for all Montessori equipment and their presentations
• Development of observation skills
• Cooperation with school policies and staff
• Participation in parent/child/teacher interactions
• Monthly progress reports
• Evaluations by supervising teacher(s)
From time to time, adult learners will be observed and evaluated by an MMTEI Field Consultant. If you are a great distance from Kalispell, we may locate an approved Field Consultant near you for these required evaluations.

Evaluation & Review
Upon successful completion of all of the above components, the adult learner will be evaluated using the following:
• Oral examination on Montessori materials
• Written examinations on Montessori principles, philosophy and materials
• Presentation of Manuals and Year-Long Research Project
An adult learner holding a bachelor's degree will be awarded an AMS Early Childhood Credential. An adult learner holding a minimum of a high school diploma, but not a bachelor's degree, will receive an AMS Associate Early Childhood Credential.
